Summary

This article describes the line chart report type.

Table of Contents

This report type can be created by generating a report in the Reports tab in the Fountayn  system and selecting ‘Line Chart’ from the dropdown on the output screen.

The Line Chart plots values against one another using lines to represent the changes in the trends from one data point to the next. The expected values are numeric with or without a column that includes data identifiers (e.g. record names). If no record identifiers are present in the fields, a sequential number will be used to represent separate datasets.

The following appear as options for this output type:

Height

This height will be used to size the area where the chart will be drawn. The chart will be sized accordingly within the container. The measurement is in pixels. There are approximately 100 pixels per inch on the average monitor.

Width

This width will be used to size the area where the chart will be drawn. The chart will be sized accordingly within the container. The measurement is in pixels. There are approximately 100 pixels per inch on the average monitor.

Chart Top

This option determines the location of the placement of the top of the actual chart (excluding the axis and legends) and is expressed as a distance from the top border. Leaving the field blank will result in an auto calculation of the value (recommended in most cases). Otherwise, two formats are supported: a number (a value in pixels), or a number followed by % (a percentage).

Chart Left

This option determines the location of the placement of the left edge of the actual chart (excluding the axis and legends) and is expressed as a distance from the left border. Leaving the field blank will result in an auto calculation of the value (recommended in most cases). Otherwise, two formats are supported: a number (a value in pixels), or a number followed by % (a percentage).

Chart Area Width

This option determines the width of the actual chart (excluding the axis and legends) within the overall display area. Leaving the field blank will result in an auto calculation of the value (recommended in most cases). Otherwise, two formats are supported: a number (a value in pixels), or a number followed by % (a percentage).

Chart Area Height

This option determines the height of the actual chart (excluding the axis and legends) within the overall display area. Leaving the field blank will result in an auto calculation of the value (recommended in most cases). Otherwise, two formats are supported: a number (a value in pixels), or a number followed by % (a percentage).

Include Header

If set to true (the default), header information will be included at the top of the report (report title, date and time of creation, workgroup, study, and site names). If set to false, only the report title will display above the report.

Date/Data Identifier

Data that will be used to identify the data series is selected using this field selector. For the Timeline Graph, this column must contain date values.

Chart Data Mode

Data can be presented to the chart in the following ways:

  • Row Oriented (most common) – 1 Field in the report = 1 set of data on the report
  • Column Oriented – 1 Field in the report = 1 point within a set of data on the chart

Include Data Table

If True, a table of the data used to generate the chart will be displayed below the chart, sized to the same width.

Include Table Paging

If True (and a table is included with the chart), paging functionality will be included in the data table.

Table Page Size

This value is used to determine the number of results per page if paging is enabled on a data table.

X Axis Label

This label appears on the horizontal axis of the chart. It should be descriptive of the horizontal scale.

Y Axis Label

This label appears on the vertical axis of the chart. It should be descriptive of the vertical scale.

Values Are Stacked/Accumulated

If set to true, the values are stacked (accumulated).

Legend Position

This setting determines the location of the legend. Defaults to right except for the Scatter Chart which defaults to None.

Line Width

This setting determines the line width in pixels. Use zero to hide all lines and show only the points.

Point Size

This setting determines the diameter of data points, in pixels. Use zero to hide all points.
