This article describes how to perform a basic and advanced search and how to clear a search.

The search bar is located at the top of the Contacts Manager and can be used to search for a specific contact. By clicking a letter, you can also search contacts by the first letter of their name.

When beginning a search, it is important to note your location in the Contacts Tree, because the search feature functions at the currently selected level. For example, if you’re viewing the Personal Contacts folder, the search results will only display those contacts found in the Personal Contacts folder. To search across all contacts, assure you are at the top level by selecting ‘Contacts’ within the Contacts Tree before searching.

Basic Search

The basic search feature allows you to search by Name, Primary Email and Primary Phone. To locate a specific contact, take the following steps.

  1. In the ‘Find Contacts’ text box, enter part of the contact’s name, email or phone number.
  2. Select ‘Name,’ ‘Primary Email’ or ‘Primary Phone’ from the drop down list based on the information you entered in step 1.
  3. Click the ‘Find’ button.

Advanced Search

With the Advanced Search feature, you can search by address, anniversary, birthday, company, electronic address, name, phone number or title. To help narrow the search results, you can also specify whether the search field starts with or contains the specified search word.

  1. In the search bar, select ‘Advanced Search.’
  2. Select the search field that you want to search by with the Search Field dropdown menu.
  3. In the ‘For’ textbox enter the letters or words that you would like to search for.
  4. In the dropdown menu beside the ‘For’ textbox, select either ‘Starts with’ or ‘Contains.’
  5. Click the ‘Find’ button.
  6. To switch back to the basic search feature, click the ‘Contacts’ link in the search bar.

Clear the Search

At any time during the search process, you can clear the search. After clearing a search, all contents of the currently viewed folder will be displayed.

To clear a search when performing a basic search, click the ‘Reset’ link in the search bar.


To clear a search when performing an advanced search, click the ‘Reset’ button in the search bar.
